Diffrernces Between FRP Molded And Pultruded Grating

1. Surface

FRP molded gratings have more surface types to choose from than pultruded gratings.

Surface options for FRP molded gratings include meniscus top, smooth surface, grit top, integrally applied grit top, integrally applied chequered plate top, and integrally applied smooth surface.

FRP pultruded gratings have five surface types to choose from, including smooth surface, anti-slip groove surface, grit top, integrally applied grit top, and integrally applied chequered plate top.

2. Fabrication process

FRP molded grating is made of large metal molds, combined with manual winding and resin casting. In simple words, the prepared resin is poured into the mold and then the glass fiber filaments are placed on the mold to heat the mold, and the mold is formed after the grating is cured. The interwoven square mesh structure will give the product bi-directional strength, which means that no matter which direction the load on the top of the grating moves, the panel can withstand the same load.

FRP pultruded grating is assembled from FRP pultruded profiles. Pultrusion is a process for continuous production of FRP profiles with equal cross-sectional shape and size. The process is as follows: under the traction force produced by the molding equipment, the reinforcing material (such as glass fiber roving, glass fiber continuous mat, etc.) is impregnated with the matrix material (such as unsaturated polyester resin, etc.) according to a specific preparation form and then passed mold system, and continuously solidify and form in it, so as to continuously obtain FRP profiles with smooth surface, stable dimensions and extremely high strength. Once these pultruded profiles are ready, they are assembled and turned into FRP pultruded grating. FRP pultruded grating has unidirectional strength and is ideal for high load requirements or large spans.

3. Resin

Mach’s FRP molded grating provides a variety of resins to meet different needs:

Code Description Base Resin Flame Retardant Performance Standard Color
V-CF Acid, Alkali Solvents And Other Severely Corrosive Environments Vinyl Ester Oxygen Index ≥28 Grass Green, Yellow, Gray, Orange
V-CR Environments Requiring Excellent Flame Retardancy And Corrosion Resistance Vinyl Ester Oxygen Index ≥35 Dark Gray, Black
I-IF More Economical Than The Above Two, And Has Excellent Acid Resistance, Moderate Alkali And Solvent Resistance Isophthalic Oxygen Index ≥28 Grass Green, Yellow, Gray
I-FF For Meat Products And Food Processing Plants, Waterworks Isophthalic Food Grade Oxygen Index =26 Yellow, Light Gray
O-AF General Acid And Alkali Environments Orthophthalic Oxygen Index ≥28 Grass, Gray, Yellow
O-AN More Economical Than O-AF, No Flame Retardancy Orthophthalic Oxygen Index ≤28 Grass Green, Yellow, Gray
MP-5 Environment With High Fire Protection And Low Smoke Requirements Phenolic Oxygen Index ≤80 Brown

Mach’s FRP pultruded grating on the other hand offers four resin systems:

Code Description Base Resin Corrosion Resistance
VE Acid, Alkali Solvents And Other Severely Corrosive Environments Vinyl Ester Excellent
ISO Excellent Acid Resistance, Moderate Alkali And Solvent Resistance Isophthalic Very Good
ORTHO General Acid And Alkali Environments Orthophthalic General
PHENO Low Smoke, Low Toxicity And High Flame Retardant Requirements Phenolic Good
